On February 24, 2018 by Theater Talk Web

THEATER TALK’s episode “Creating DEAR EVAN HANSEN” was just nominated for a New York EMMY® Award for Best Interview/Discussion Program. This is the series’ third Emmy® nomination.

(The series won the Emmy Award for this category last May.)

The episode, co-hosted by Jesse Green (Co-Chief Theater Critic of The New York Times) and series executive producer Susan Haskins-Doloff, was an at-the-piano conversation with the creatives of the celebrated musical DEAR EVAN HANSEN, composer/lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul with librettist Steven Levenson.

Nominated for the 2018 New York EMMY® Award for Best Interview/Discussion Program

We welcome the creative team behind the 2017 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Dear Evan Hansen, composer-lyricists Justin Paul and Benj Pasek and librettist Steven Levenson (all subsequent Tony winners for the show). They discuss their inspiration for Dear Evan Hansen’s original story and their work together refining it into an insightful and revered piece of musical theater. Interspersed through the conversation, Pasek & Paul sing several songs from the production including “Waving Through a Window.” The songwriting team also treats us to their first public performance together of “City of Stars,” a number they co-wrote with Justin Hurwitz for the movie La La Land, which later won the 2017 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
